James Edward Fritz “Ed”, 85, a life-long resident of Toledo, OH, passed away, Monday, January 13, 2025, at Ohio Ebeid Hospice Facility. Ed was born April 30,1939, to parents Maynard and Gladys (Whalen) Fritz. He was a very proud 1958 graduate of The John Wallace Whitmer High School. During his years at Whitmer High School, Ed was a member of The State Honored Acapella Choir, Student Manager for the Junior Varsity Baseball Team and was awarded Perfect Attendance for the four years he attended school. Ed’s love for Whitmer High School never ended, following his Graduation in 1958, he continued to attend Sporting Events, Luncheons, Reunions as well as anything else related to Panther Nation. Ed said more than often, that Whitmer had the greatest faculty, administration and students that any young man could want. Ed went on to attend Stautzenberger Business College and the University of Toledo. He spent his career in Retail Management, working mostly at The Florsheim Shoe Company. Ed knew more about shoes than the average person and continued to wear a good pair of shoes, that he loved, for years to come. He is survived by Tommy Lee (Mel) Fritz, Bonnie Fritz (wife of deceased brother Chuck C. Fritz), Debbie Fritz (wife of deceased brother Roger D. Fritz) as well as multiple nieces, nephews and cousins that he loved dearly. Ed was preceded in death by his beloved mother Gladys and his special dad Maynard. Ed opened his heart and home to care for his mother for over 10 years as he never wanted her to be sent to a skilled nursing facility. He was also preceded in death by his brother and his wife, Frank E. Fritz (Judy). Ed also leaves behind his neighbors, Jeff and Gloria Burns who he often referred to as his angels as well as dear friends, Alan and Stephanie Dearing, Alan met Ed in later years and never missed taking him to lunch on a weekly basis. Ed would say, quite frequently, that he could not understand why somebody 50 years younger than him would want to meet up with him so frequently. Ed enjoyed a wonderful life and wanted to live to be 100. He had a strong love for his family, the Ohio State Buckeyes, Pittsburgh Penguins and his Whitmer Panthers. Ed’s never-ending stories, sense of humor, kindness and great heart will be missed by one and all. Ed’s family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at the Ohio Ebeid Hospice Facility who provided him with excellent comfort and care before his passing. Family and Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, OH, Friday, January 24, 2025, from 11am until 1pm. Ed will be laid to rest beside his Dear Mother at Toledo Memorial Park Cemetery and Mausoleum, immediately following. his visitation. Ed has requested that anyone wanting to make a monetary donation, that it be sent to The Whitmer Band and Orchestra Boosters, 5601 Clegg Drive, Toledo, OH 43613 Online condolences to reebfuneralhome.com
