James Ott Obituary

James Leslie Ott, 85, passed from this earthly realm to join our God and heavenly Father on April 9, 2026.  Born May 6, 1940, in Toledo, OH to the late Leslie Ott and Marion Pearl (Box) Ott. On April 16, 1979, Jim married Linda Light Wenzlick.

Jim, Linda, Cindy and Jeff Wenzlick were almost nomads as Jim’s career in private industrial security took them from Ohio to Michigan, to the Chicago area, to Damascus MD, back to the Chicago area, on to New York, to North Carolina, back to the Chicago area, to Michigan, and finally back to Ohio in 2001. He retired in 2021, at the age of 81.

Before he sojourned all over, Jim enjoyed volunteer work in Junior Achievement, the Red Cross, Toast Masters, NRA, Berkey Village Treasurer, and American Farm Museum and Education Center. He cherished his time as a ‘parent volunteer’ in both the Indian Guides with son Richard and Indian Princesses with daughter Lynda. He even had a couple of horses along the way. Jim proudly served in the military and has many stories to tell of his time in the Ohio Air National Guard.

Jim enjoyed retirement, living ‘back on the farm’ that’s been in the family since 1920. Zipping around on his golf cart and the zero turn lawn mower. Target practice in the backyard. Teaching others gun safety.

Jim enjoyed many years of service with Flanders Road church of Christ, in Toledo.   He spent much time reading his Bible, sharing the gospel, and worked on bringing safety and security into the church building. Plus, he served as a deacon while at Haskins Road church of Christ in the early 1980’s.

Jim is survived by his wife, Linda Ott, son Richard L Ott (Cindy) of Sylvania, and daughter Lynda M Mohr (Andy) of Berkey, son Jeff Wenzlick (Katie) of Maumee, and daughter Cindy Coposky (Bob) of Frederick MD, 6 grandchildren, Rachel Ott (Peter Chouquette), Marion Swanson, Devon Mohr, Cassidy Thompson, Jenna Thompson, and Jacob Wenzlick, and 3 great-grandchildren, Leyah Chouquette, Sylar Chouquette, and Brayden Smith. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lynn E Ott (Judy). He is also survived by the mother of his children, Joanne Snyder Ott.

A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, April 18th, at Flanders Road church of Christ. Visitation/fellowship at 10:30 am. Memorial Service at 11:30. Military honors following the service, followed by a luncheon. Internment by the family later this day.
