James R Miller, age 92, of Sylvania, Ohio passed away on August 17, 2023. Jim was born in
Toledo, Ohio December 8, 1930, to the son of Russell G and Bernadine Miller. He was a graduate
of DeVilbus High School and University of Toledo. In September 1948 he started at UT and was
elected freshman representative to the University Student Union. In August 1950 he was called
to active duty with the Marine Corp Reserve headed by Colonel Walter Churchill. He served
1950-1952 during the Korean conflict. He graduated from the University of Toledo in 1954. In
1955 he joined Prudential Life Insurance Company as an agent and became Division Manager.
He started his own agency, Sylvania Insurance, and continued in sales until his retirement. Jim
was past President of the Downtown Coaches Association for University of Toledo. He was the
Secretary/Treasurer of the Toledo Agents and Managers Association for many years. Jim loved
playing golf and was a member of Highland Meadows since 1961. He was President of “The
Grand Old Place” in 1982, 1984, 1985 and 1986. He was given an Honorary Life membership in
2010. He was baptized and a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church until they joined Olivet
Lutheran Church in 1980.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Philp and Robert Miller, Son Steven, and
Grandson Andrew Weber. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Carol, of 58 years; Children
Cheryl (Dan) Weber, Jennifer (Nick) Liaros, Elizabeth (Nathan) Stalhood; Grandchildren Ward
Weber, Alexis (Mitch) Challis, Noah (Amanda) Liaros, Alysa (Austin) Baker, Seth (Ruby)
Liaros, 8 great grandchildren and a special nephew Derek (Lacey) Miller.
Visitation will be at Reeb’s Mortuary Friday, September 1 from 4:00-8:00 pm. The memorial
service will be held at Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe Street, Sylvania, OH at 11:00
am(visitation prior to the service 10:00-11:00). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
Olivet Lutheran Church.
