Haroldean Ethel (Justus) Allen went to heaven on December 31, 2024, at The Grove in Sylvania, Ohio. She passed peacefully with her family by her side. Deane, as she was affectionately called, had lived, worked and raised her family in Sylvania Township.
Deane was born on July 18, 1940, to Harold and Myrtle Justus in Toledo, Ohio. She was the daughter of a city employee and grew up in Toledo. She graduated from Scott High School and never had an opportunity to attend college.
Deane was a voracious reader. She often said her education came from books, life experiences and the hard lessons learned from making mistakes.
Deane loved Sylvania Township. She called it home for more than 60 years and was passionate about the Township’s beauty and quality of life. That passion inspired her to run for public office. Dean became an accomplished elected official and served the Township residents with pride and distinction from January 1, 1978 to January 31, 1997. During that time period, she was considered a trailblazer as few women ran and held public office.
Deane is survived by her loving husband; Donald Sherman Allen and three children; Cynthia Marie (Allen) McLean, David Martin Allen and Richard Matthew Allen. She has eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A private family service was held on January 4, 2025, and she was laid to rest at Toledo Memorial Park in Sylvania Ohio.
Those wishing to offer memorials are asked to consider Care360-Hospice, 1657 Holland Road, Suite B Maumee, Ohio.
