After a brief illness, Harold age 86 of Holland, Ohio passed peacefully at home on August 23, 2024, alongside his loving family. Harold Roger Leupp was born on March 3, 1938 in Wauseon, Ohio. He grew up in the small town of Delta, Ohio alongside his brother Howard and parents, Orpha, and Noah. In his early years, Harold was quite the athlete, receiving four varsity letters for four sports (football, basketball, baseball, and track) in the four years he attended Delta High School.
Harold would go on to attend THE Ohio State University, making him a true Buckeye for life. He was often seen in his later years with an Ohio State cane and a pocket full of buckeyes to hand out to anyone (even the staff at the hospital up North). With a degree in Civil Engineering, Harold worked as a surveyor and engineer. He landed his first job out of school with Peirce Construction Company where he was making $160/week. He told his wife, Carol, with that kind of salary, they were “on easy street”.
When it came time for Peirce to close their doors, Harold leveraged this opportunity to set his entrepreneurial career in motion. By 1985, Harold had successfully formed his own engineering and construction company, PHC, Inc. which he operated alongside his son, Chris, before retiring in the early 2000s.
Harold loved everything about the construction industry, but most of all, he enjoyed meeting and collaborating with others- many would say he didn’t know a stranger.
When he wasn’t cheering on the Buckeyes, making new acquaintances, or working on a project, he was traveling with his wife and friends. While visiting Australia, Thailand, Jerusalem, Africa, and Alaska, he spent a lot of time on Catawba Island at their condo of 35 years. He spent many summers there with his children and grandchildren, taking them on golf cart “joy rides” and enjoying time at the Catawba Island Club.
Harold was known for being a positive soul and his relentless selflessness. Whenever you would ask him how he was doing, his response was always “perfect” with a thumbs up. He cared deeply for those around him and loved to celebrate their successes. To him, any news was good news and was always welcomed with a genuine smile and gentle applause.
Harold is preceded in death by his father Noah, mother Orpha, brother Howard, and great-grandson Jude. He is survived by his wife of 60 years and high school sweetheart, Carol; children Sarah and Chris Corbett, Chris and Patti Leupp, Melissa Leupp; grandchildren Meghan (Corbett) Holtz, Michael Corbett, Jordan Leupp, Erin Leupp, Blythe Estrada-Leupp; great-grandson Jack Corbett.
On behalf of our family, we thank you for all of your thoughts, prayers, and years of lasting friendships. Harold, our loving, generous, and kind father, grandfather, great- grandfather, and friend will forever be in our hearts. Donations in Harold’s name may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Olivet Lutheran Church in Sylvania.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2024, from 3pm-8pm at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 Main St., Sylvania, Ohio. The funeral service will be Friday, August 30, 2024 at 11am at Olivet Lutheran Church, 5840 Monroe St. in Sylvania, with visitation one hour prior and luncheon to follow.
