Gerald R. Dohoney, 91, of Sylvania, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, May 30, 2021, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Defiance, Ohio April 30, 1930. Jerry proudly served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in France. Jerry married the love of his life, Rita Drabek and together they celebrated 63 years of marriage. They had two beautiful daughters (Beth & Jill) he loved dearly. He was witty, charming, intuitive, and a true gentleman. In his younger years he loved to ride horses, swim laps in the pool, and watch his children and grandchildren grow. He worked for Champion Spark Plug, Canteen Vending Service, and then retired from Jeep (known there as the Candyman because he always shared his lunch sweets with his coworkers). Jerry enjoyed playing pinochle, a good cup of coffee, and company. He enjoyed children so much that he even volunteered in the MOPS ministry at Westgate Chapel where he attended church. Children were the light of his life. Jerry enjoyed holding and watching his grandchildren grow.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rita; children, Beth Windom (Chris) and Jill Barnes; devoted grandchildren, Cara Lydy (Jared), Emily Mefferd (Michael), Anna Windom, Joshua Barnes (Sara), Jacob Barnes (Kristal), Julia Main (Spencer), Jennifer Barnes; great grandchildren, Riley, Payton, Adelynn, Sophia, Noah, Charlotte, Jackson, Miles; sister, Joann Bittinger; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters and his parents.
