Our beloved father George R. Hernandez passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at the age of 94. George was born in Houston, Texas on August 22, 1930, to parents Eleodoro Chapa Hernandez and Maria Reyna Hernandez. George was the second oldest of eight children. He is survived by his sister Mrs. Minnie Alvarado and youngest brother Mr. John Hernandez.
George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. It was during that time while stationed in Berlin, Germany that George developed his passion for boxing, and many began to know him as Rocky Hernandez. George spent many years later involved in the Golden Gloves. He served as a referee and mentor to many aspiring boxers. Following his boxing career, George became very involved in organizing and attending the Toughman Contests in Toledo, Ohio. George was a life-long, loyal Cleveland Browns and Indians fan. He was a talented bowler and enjoyed every opportunity he could to get out on the golf course. George worked for several years as a welder, then millwright with Toledo Jeep Corporation. While off the clock he participated in the Jeep softball league as an umpire until after several years he retired.
George was a man grounded in faith and served in the community of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He meant so much to so many throughout his life.
Family and friends are welcome to join us as we celebrate the life of George R. Hernandez on Sunday, February 23, 2025, from 1-4pm, with a service at 3PM, at Reeb Funeral Home 5712 Main St., Sylvania, Ohio 43560. Online condolences to reebfuneralhome.com
