Gary E. Lewis, 85, of Toledo, OH, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2021, at the ProMedica Ebeid Hospice Inpatient Unit, Sylvania. He was born July 22, 1936, in Toledo, OH, to parents Clarence and Elsie Mae (Shoemaker) Lewis. Gary was employed with Brondes Ford Trilby as an auto mechanic for more than 38 years. He then began a career with the Electric Tool Company that lasted 17 years, before retiring in 2015. Gary was proud to have served with the United States Army. He owned a 1956 Ford Fairlane that went very fast, his skills as a mechanic made it go even faster, causing his racing friends to bestow on him the nickname, “Flatout.” Gary was a long and faithful member of The Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, where he served several terms on the Church Council, and sung with the adult choir for more than 40 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Susan (Newbury) Lewis; daughter, Janeen (Joseph) Willinger; son, Gary A. (Joy) Lewis; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Iva (Pat) Whalen and Maxine (Wayne) Harvey; and brother, Michael Lewis. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Linda Larberg; sister, Mildred Growden; and brothers, Marvin, Arnold, Clarence, Allen, and Vern Lewis.
Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 Main St., Sylvania, OH, Thursday, November 4, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted at The Lutheran Church of Our Saviour, Friday, November 5, at 11:00 a.m.; family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior.
