Eileen Peters Obituary

Born April 15, 1926 in Westfield Township, PA, Eileen was the daughter of the late Tracy F. Glover and Ethel S. Balch.  Eileen grew up on a country farm surrounded by extended family and graduated from Westfield High School.  She decided that she wanted to work in business, so following graduation she moved to the “big city” of Rochester, NY where she applied her savings from wartime employment in vacuum tube manufacturing to finance her education at the Rochester Business Institute.  Her first job was at Kodak, and while there she met her future husband, Homer Peters.

Homer’s career took them to Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Toledo while Eileen was a full time mother to their three daughters.  The “Girl Scout desk” where she masterminded troop activities was a fixture in the Peters house for many years.  Eileen enjoyed sewing clothes and home furnishings, and spending vacations at the family cabin on Cheat Lake in WV.

When the girls grew older, Eileen returned to work to complete her career with Johns Manville in Waterville, OH.  During retirement, Eileen volunteered for many years as office manager for Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity.  She and Homer worked on numerous Habitat projects, including a winter visit to rebuild homes in Homestead, FL in the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew.

Eileen loved to travel.  She and Homer RVed throughout the United States, Canada, Alaska and Mexico.  Eileen also visited Nicaragua and Peru and took her grandson to visit the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone.  An active member of the Sylvania United Church of Christ, she especially valued her time with fellow church women and friends, the Wednesday Ladies Group that met every Thursday for lunch at Charlie’s in Sylvania.

Eileen is survived by her daughters, Diane Peters (David Lindley), Marcia Peters, Sonia J.C. Green (Robert Green); grandson Nathaniel Lindley; brother Lynn Balch (Sally) and nephew and nieces Ryan, Robin and Meghan and their children; and sister Aneta Glover.  She was predeceased by Homer Peters, her beloved husband of nearly 54 years; son-in-law Tim Connors; and parents, Ethel S. Balch and Tracy F. Glover.

Eileen will be interred next to her husband in Benders Church Cemetery, Plainfield Township, Northampton County, PA following a graveside ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, 1310 Conant Street, Maumee, OH 43537.

The family would like to thank the staff of Charter Senior Living of Oak Openings for their friendship and compassionate care.   Online condolences to reebfuneralhome.com
