Edward J. Betz

Edward John Betz, 74, of Sylvania, Ohio passed away suddenly December 13, 2025. He was born December 8, 1951, in Toledo, Ohio. Edward moved with his parents to Lambertville, Michigan. He was a 1969 graduate of Bedford High School. After graduation Edward was proud to have served with United States Navy during the Viet Nam War and is still friends with fellow Sailors from his ship. Edward began a career working as a Roadside Service Engineer and traveled all over the country and made many friends before retiring in 2017. He was also a lifetime member of Olivet Lutheran Church. Edward met the love of his life Deborah Betz and they married in 1986. The couple purchased a home in Sylvania, Ohio in 1986. They bought a house in Kalkaska Michigan in 1998, where he loved to ride his motorcycles and enjoyed watching NASCAR on television. Edward and Deborah built a home in 2005 in Gregory, Michigan as well and enjoy the lake life with his wife, children and grandchildren. Edward loved to play the guitar. In his early days he played in a band where he made many friends. Edward was full of life watching racing, hanging out with buddies and especially going to the lake house with his wife.

He is survived by his loving wife of more than 39 years Deborah (Koester) Betz; daughter Sandy (Christopher) Zollweg; sons Scott (Melissa) Lewis, Brady (Elizabeth) Grimm, and Christopher Betz; grandchildren Kaylie (Matt) Garant, Andrew and Payton Lewis, Korrin (Jared Houtz) Zollweg, Presleigh Lewis, Lyvia Betz, Caroline Grimm and Genevieve; great-great grandchildren Avery, Oliver, Aaviyanna, and Beau; sister Daryl Martin; and brother James (Barbara) Betz. Edward was preceded in death by his parents; and sister Lona Meadows.

Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St. Sylvania, Ohio Friday, December 19, 2025, from 11:00am, until the Funeral Ceremony begins at 1:00pm, Pastor Melissa Micham of the Olivet Luther Church will officiate. Edward will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Toledo Memorial Park following the Funeral Ceremony.
