Dorothy Jean Lay, 87, of Toledo, OH, passed away Wednesday morning, April 14, 2021, at the Ebeid Hospice Residence, Sylvania. Dorothy was born June 26, 1933, in Morgan County Alabama, to parents Elbert and Rosie (Roberts) Sellers. She married Clarence Lay in 1955. Dorothy kept the books for the family business, Lay’s Automotive, at the same time raising a family and working at the Sylvania Schools where she eventually retired. Dorothy was a talented artist who enjoyed painting with oil. She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed making quilts for family and friends. Dorothy also an avid gardener. She and her husband were Charter Members of the Sylvania Moose and longtime members of VFW Post 2898 Ladies Auxiliary.
Dorothy is survived by her loving sons Kenneth and Stephen (Debra) Lay; grandchildren Trent, Nick, K.C. Jason, and Corey. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Brenda Westray; and sister Peggy Thurman.
Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St. Sylvania, OH, Saturday, April 17th from 11:00 AM until the Funeral Ceremony begins at 1:00 PM. Pastor Ernie Unholz of the First Christian Church, Sylvania, where Dorothy was a long and faithful member will officiate.
