Dorothy Jane (nee Stone) Arman, 96, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, with her husband of 71½ years, Clifton Arman, by her side.
She was born in Toledo, Ohio, to the late Frederick Daniel Stone and Inice Addie VanWormer. Dorothy grew up alongside her eight siblings and graduated from DeVilbiss High School in 1948. In 1952, she met the love of her life on a blind date, and the two were married on November 26, 1954.
Dorothy began working for the Sylvania school system in the 1970s, first as a teacher’s aide at Hillview Elementary before becoming the secretary at Highland Elementary. She truly loved her work and especially cherished the opportunity to interact with students each day.
In 1990, Dorothy and Clifton purchased a retirement condominium in Fort Myers, Florida, where they spent January through April each year enjoying the warm weather.
Affectionately known as “Dottie” she was widely admired for her baking. She took great pride in making cakes from scratch and decorating them beautifully. Her home was always filled with homemade cookies; her red velvet cake became a cherished tradition and also made an exceptional lemon meringue pie. After every meal, Clif would inevitably ask what was for dessert—and Dottie always had something ready.
Dottie was also a talented crafter. She would make dresses, knit beautiful Christmas stockings for all the kids and crochet Afghans. She was also one of the “Frog Ladies” of Flower Hospital, sewing plush fabric frogs to give to the children at the hospital
Dottie also enjoyed playing Pinochle and spent many evenings with friends as part of her beloved card club, often playing late into the night.
Dottie is survived by her husband, Clifton E Arman, their two children: James Arman of Ottawa Lake, MI, Susan (Rick) Herron of Cedarburg, WI; two grandchildren: Kalie (Dave) Olson, RJ Herron; one great grandchild: Oliver Olson; siblings Marian Klotz, Robert Stone; in-law siblings Marcella (Mickey) Tittle, Alice Baker and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Dottie was preceded in death by her and Clif’s parents, her and Clif’s siblings and spouses; Mabel A. Stone, Glenn (Doris) Stone, Virginia Deckelman, Ken (Lavella) Stone, Betty Jean (Bud) Farris; Eleanor (Richard) Emerine and Larry Arman.
A celebration of life will be held on May 30, 2026, from 11:00 - 2:00PM at Otterbein SeniorLife Sunset Village in the Clubhouse located at 9640 Sylvania Metamora Rd. Sylvania, Ohio 43560
