Dominic James Raths of Toledo, Ohio, born October 26, 1993, in Chesapeake, VA, passed away suddenly, on November 6, 2024.
Surviving are his parents, Lisa Smith and James (Kathryn) Raths; Siblings, Matthew Johnson, Alexandria Raths, Joshua (Ellen) Williams, and Jeremy Williams; Grandparents, Mary and David Custard and Patricia LaBean. Numerous Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by Grandparents Henry Smith, Rosemary Moore, Frederick Raths and Buck LaBean.
Dominic was a 2012 graduate of Toledo Public Schools Phoenix On-line Academy and attended Owens Community College.
All of his life Dominic has put the needs of others before his own. His very caring "old soul" launched him into his first career, caring for others. He obtained his STNA license and worked in this field for 3 years. His love of reading and all things literature led him to his next role at Discover Books. Just before his passing he worked briefly for Zepf Center and had just completed the State Certification to become a Peer Support Specialist to assist those navigating the mental health system.
Dominic was known for his eclectic style and unique creations. He crafted a publication called Maladjusted, known as a "Zine", a small collaboration of art, poetry and short stories he assembled with other artists and independently circulated them to coffee houses and small independent shops throughout the Toledo Area.
Some of his favorite pastimes included nature walks at Wildwood, where any dog he encountered would get the "Can I pet your dog?!" request. He loved all animals, especially dogs and they loved him. His passion for unique genres of music and film was something he shared with his lifelong friends. Dominic also developed a love for boxing, he joined International Boxing Club in Toledo and attended regularly because of the positive effects he saw that it had on his physical and mental well-being. He tirelessly sought out healthy ways to manage his mental health.
His favorite travel destination was Sleeping Bear Dunes on Lake Michigan and any other destination that could provide him with peace and tranquility. His sensitive nature, thoughtfulness and extremely caring personality will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
A private funeral for immediate family will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at noon at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main Street, Sylvania, Ohio.
