Dave Switala of Toledo, Ohio passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Dave was born on July 23, 1935, in Toledo to the late Mary and Steven Switala. He graduated from Burnham High School in 1954. He served our country in the Army Reserves. After the Reserves, Dave had a 40-year career as a plumber & pipe fitter representing Local 50. He had a reputation as a hard worker and was dedicated to his union and fellow members.
Dave was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He was an avid fisherman and golfer. Dave loved his home where he lived for 70 years which his dad built. He raised his family here and his backyard was his oasis. He loved his vegetable garden, gardening and sitting on his swing. In the winters, when his sons were young, he crafted an ice rink so they could play hockey. Upon retirement, Dave spent 25 wonderful years wintering in Fort Meyers Beach, Florida where he enjoyed soaking up the warm sunshine boating and fishing.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Ruth Ann, his children Mark, (Carolyn), Todd, (Amy) and his grandchildren Kaelyn Buehler (Joe), Olivia Hedges (Scott), Nick, Trevor and Kara Switala, their mother, Lisa Waugh, and his great grandchildren, Tripp, Henry, Loie, George, Kit, Archie and Auggie.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00am on May 18th at Little Flower Catholic Church in Toledo and lived streamed on the Parish website littleflowertoledo.org Visitation will take place one hour prior to the Mass.
