After graduating from Blissfield High School, Craig enlisted in the US Marine Corp, but returned after an injury in training led to an honorable discharge. Craig loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter throughout his life, frequently hunting ducks, pheasants, geese, and deer. He was an excellent shot and received recognition on numerous occasions for his shooting at Ducks Unlimited competitions and other trap and skeet events.
Family was important to Craig and some of his happiest times were traveling with his family to National parks and other places with beautiful scenery. He valued education and prioritized helping his children while they were in college. He loved family barbecues with his children and grandchildren. Craig was very outgoing and could find something to talk about with anyone, he loved to tell stories and share memories. He was a large man, with a booming laugh, and he gave the best bear hugs. He loved reading books, classic rock music, and action movies.
