Clifton Eugene Arman

Clifton E. Arman, 95, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2026. After the loss of his beloved wife of 71½ years, Dorothy J. Arman, in April 2026, he quickly joined her in heaven.

Clif was born in Toledo, Ohio, on August 16, 1930, to the late Kenneth G. Arman and Ester M. (Hawkins) Arman. He experienced a difficult childhood, losing his mother at the age of nine. Alongside his sisters, Marcella Tittle and Alice Baker, he was lovingly cared for by relatives until his father remarried Kate Nadine Arman. He was later joined by a brother, the late Lawrence R. Arman.

Clif graduated from Waite High School in 1948 and went on to attend the University of Toledo, earning his bachelor’s degree in June 1953. He continued his studies there and received a Master of Electrical Engineering degree in June 1961. In 1952, Clif met the love of his life, Dottie, on a blind date. They were married on November 26, 1954, and shared more than seven decades of marriage together. Clif also proudly served in the United States Army from September 1954 until his honorable discharge in September 1956. Following college, Clif began his engineering career at Goodyear Aircraft and later worked for Northrop Aircraft, Toledo Scale, and Strong Electric Corporation. In 1961, he joined Libbey- Owens-Ford (LOF), later Pilkington, where he remained until his retirement in 1992. During the final 13 years of his career, he served as Chief Electrical Engineer, traveling throughout the country and overseeing the electrical systems of newly constructed manufacturing plants.

Clif was an avid golfer who spent many enjoyable hours on the course, especially during the winters he and Dottie spent at their condo in Fort Myers, Florida, from January through April. He also loved playing Pinochle with friends in their card club and later with his sister Marcie and her husband, Mickey. Every Friday, they took turns gathering at each other’s homes, enjoying dinner together before spending the evening playing cards. Clif and Dottie also played with their children, Jim and Sue, and even taught their grandchildren, Kalie and RJ, how to play. Clif was always the scorekeeper.

Another of Clif’s favorite pastimes was working on jigsaw puzzles. There was always a puzzle in progress on his dining room table, and over the years he built an impressive collection. Family and friends knew that a new puzzle was always a welcome gift. After retiring, Clif became actively involved at Glenwood Lutheran Church, where he helped maintain the church property. Along with three other dedicated volunteers, he spent Wednesdays using his skills to repair and improve the aging building. His service to the church reflected his lifelong willingness to help others and put his talents to good use.

Clif is survived by his children, James Arman of Ottawa Lake, Michigan, and Susan (Rick) Herron of Cedarburg, Wisconsin; his grandchildren, Kalie (Dave) Olson and RJ Herron; his great-grandson, Oliver Olson; his sisters, Marcella (Mickey) Tittle and Alice Baker; his in-law siblings, Marian (the late James) Klotz and Robert Stone; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy J. Arman; his parents and hers; his brother, Lawrence R. Arman; and his siblings-in-law, Mabel A. Stone, Glenn (Doris) Stone, Virginia Deckelman, Kenneth (Lavella) Stone, Betty Jean (Bud) Farris, Eleanor (Richard) Emerine, and James Klotz.

Visitation will be held on July 8, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main Street, Sylvania, Ohio 43560. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Glenwood Lutheran Church, 2545 Monroe Street, Toledo, Ohio 43620.
