Our vivacious little angel is now at peace. Charlotte A. Smith, formerly of Ottawa Hills and Waterford Place, widow of Dr. Robert Smith PhD, a published historian, passed away on Sept. 6, 2023, after a long battle to recover from a stroke. She was born on December 10, 1947, in Toledo, OH, to Charles and Delphia Coleman.
Charlotte's interests were wide and varied, from dancing the Flamenco to creating acclaimed artwork. She was on the Dean's List at the University of Toledo. She was a member of Phi Alpha Theta, National History Honor Society. She was recognized for her work with the Flower Memorial Hospital Chemical Dependency Center. Charlotte was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation and Recognition by the American Legion for her work through "Save-a Pet".
She was an accomplished silversmith and designer, commissioned by men and women throughout the United States to design a custom piece of jewelry for them. Her Studio Classics Collection was displayed locally at the Brenner Studio and Elisa Claire Gallery.
Charlotte is survived by her stepchildren, Robin (Fred) Ballam and Robert (Judith) Smith; step-granddaughter, Rachel, all of Columbus, OH; and her loving big angel, Ed Hoffman.
The family wishes to thank the Perrysburg Care and Rehabilitation Center and the Hospice of Northwest Ohio for their loving care showered upon Charlotte. In accordance with what Charlotte believed, as stated in her own words, "I believe we are here to help each other, not make light of others of God's creations," she offered her body as an "Anatomical Gift," after which she was cremated. A memorial will be held at a later date.
Those wishing to give memorials are asked to consider Maumee Valley Save-A-Pet, 5250 Hill Ave., Toledo, OH 43615. Professional services were provided by the Reeb Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered at http://www.reebfuneralhome.com.
