Charles R. Sheehy, 76, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Charlie was the tenth of 12 children and often remarked he was the last one not spoiled. Charlie was one of those guys that could make friends in an elevator. When everyone else was avoiding eye contact, he was inquiring how you were and trying to find common ground.
Following high school, Charlie served in the United States Army. After returning home, he worked on the railroad for a short time before beginning his 36-year career with the City of Toledo. During this tenure, he also worked a second job as a greeter at the former Hoeflinger Funeral Home in Oregon, Ohio, followed by many years of service at Reeb Funeral Home in Sylvania, Ohio. Charlie was perfect for this position as he had the necessary people skills and empathy to serve others in their greatest time of need. Charlie was the first to admit he wasn’t a “handyman,” but he was famous for knowing someone who could get the job done—and for a good deal at that! He was a lifelong Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan and was so proud of his Irish heritage.
But most importantly, Charlie loved his family. He felt fortunate to have grown up with 11 siblings, and he grieved for his eight cherished family members who passed before him. At the recent passing of his brother, Tom, Charlie remarked to his wife Mary: “Your family is bigger than mine now.” His own children, Brian, Michael, and Colleen, were his life breath, and their children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. Holidays, celebrations, Hilton Head Vacations, or simple Lake Erie perch fries spent with his kids were the highlight of Charlie’s life. He was a stand-up guy whose model of Faith, Family and Friends sustained him. He may have died of heart failure, but his heart never failed those he loved. The world lost an award-winning smile belonging to a stand-up guy! He will be sorely missed and always remembered.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha, and siblings Ann, Pat, Ray, Mary, Sharon, Tom, Kathleen and Bobby. He is survived by his wife Mary (Healy), his sons, Brian (Heather) and Michael (Andrea), and his daughter, Colleen (Tom). He is also survived by his grandchildren Rebecca, Jacob, Zachary Charles, Hensley, Charlie, Daniel, Emily, and Nolan, as well as his great-grandsons, Wyatt and Owen. Charlie is also survived by siblings Jim (Diane), Mike (Sandy), and Jeannie and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Words are inadequate to express the debt owed to the many people who were at our side since this journey began on November 11th, but special thanks for all the visits, calls, cards, and food sent. Brian, Heather, Michael, Andrea, Colleen, Tom, Jim, Jeannie, John, Fr. Kahle, lifelong friend John, Laurie, Vickie, Kathy, Mary’s siblings, Sr. Cathy, Camille who covered for Mary like a champ at work, nieces and nephews, dear neighbors, and Hospice of NWO have been a bulwark of strength during this most difficult time. God bless you.
Visitation will be at Reeb Funeral Home Wednesday March 5, 2025, from 3-8pm. Visitation at Little Flower Catholic Church, Thursday March 6, 2025, from 10- until the funeral mass begins at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Toledo.
