Charlie Miller, 86, of Ottawa Lake, MI, passed away peacefully at Hospice of NW Ohio on Sunday, April 19, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong farmer, tinkerer and steward of the land, Charlie lived a life rooted in hard work, with a deep devotion to his family and community.
Born on the family farm in Riga on February 21st 1940, as the only child to Vernal and Alice (Easton) Miller, Charlie was a renown farmer with many talents and vast knowledge. When farming, he grew corn, soybeans, sugar beats, and wheat, and raised chickens, pigs and cattle. He could lead up to five steer at a time. Charlie retired from Royster Clark and continued farming with John Tuckerman. On his off time, he enjoyed going to Sunday brunch, loved antique tractors and attending tractor pulls, loved golf and watching westerns, and was known for using a 5 finger bowling ball.
Charlie is survived by his daughter, Chery (Dean) Niederkohr; grandchildren: Carrie Simbeck, Wade (Alexa) Niederkohr, Zack Niederkohr and great grandchildren: JJ Simbeck, and Mae, Mille and Charlie Niederkohr.
Also survived by daughter, Cheryl Hoffman (John Harmon); grandsons: Christopher (Rachel) Hoffman, Sean (Phyllis) Hoffman; and great grandchildren: Parker and Payton Juarez, Colton Hoffman, and Chelsia Partin.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Vernal and Alice (Easton) Miller, son-in-law, Michael Hoffman, and grandson-in-law, Jason Simbeck.
Visitation will be held at Reeb Funeral home on Friday, April 24th from 3pm to 8pm, with a service to follow on Saturday, April 25th at 4pm.
Charlie lived a simple life rich in legacy; watching the 6th generation of family ushered into the family farm. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him, especially those lucky enough to call him Poppa. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice of NW Ohio Ebeid in honor of Charlie, or to a trust that has been created in his name to support his great grandchildren that he cherished so much.
