Charles Gene Behrman, age 88, of Berkey Ohio passed away Friday January 31, 2025 at Arbors at Sylvania with family by his side. Charles was born January 29, 1937 in Defiance Ohio to his parents Irvin and Isabelle (Bueher) Behrman.
Charles married his high school sweetheart Sharon Lee Hutchison and had three children from this union. As a family, many happy years were spent camping, fishing and traveling throughout the United States and Canada until Sharon’s passing in 2001.
Charles' life was marked by an unwavering commitment as he proudly served The United States I Army n the 82nd Airborne Division, Company C. His time served in the Army was cut short when his parachute didn’t function properly during a jump while on active duty, which ultimately led to his honorable discharge. Despite this setback, Charles was able to recover and live a full life, making him an inspiration to those who knew him.
Charles worked at an early age in the family greenhouse cultivating his lifelong love for flowers and enjoyment of hard work in chopping trees for firewood. Charles spent over 30 years working at Dana Corporation, retiring in 1993. He also worked part time for many years transporting kids to school for Toledo Public Schools.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sharon, siblings Clare Smith, Helen Stautzenbach, Marlene Geer, Rachel Lutz, and Elizabeth Cousino. Charles is survived by his children Charles Jr (Karen), Jeffrey , Beth (Timothy) Riling, and Sister Diane (Gary) Stechschulte along with many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
With a spirit as big as his heart, Charles lived each day with an unbridled zest for life and boundless joy that warmed the souls of those around him. The family would like to thank the Arbors at Sylvania staff for their exceptional care given to Charles and his family during his final days; and his Guardian Angel “The Soup Lady” Joy Moore for her unwavering support and friendship.
