Carol Flowers Obituary

Carol Ann Flowers departed this world on Saturday, March 23, 2024. She died surrounded by beloved family and friends, and in the expert care of the staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, Ebeid Center in Sylvania, Ohio.

Carol was born in Toledo, Ohio to parents Wilfred and Lauretta (Jensen) Bedard on March 2, 1937. She attended Catholic schools in Toledo and graduated from Central High School in 1955. She met her first husband, William (Bill) Simrell, shortly after graduation. They married and raised five children together until his death in 1978. She met her second husband, George Flowers (1937-2016), while working for Toledo Public Schools, where she served at several schools in front line support positions until her retirement.

She and George had many adventures together, especially at their trailer at “the lake,” where they spent summers entertaining family, particularly their grandchildren. One of her greatest pleasures was working in the yard/garden and her children knew that plants and flowers were always what made her happy on Mother’s Day. Another of Carol’s passions was playing Rummikub. There were many occasions spent with friends and family gathered around the dining room table, doing their best to best Carol, which didn’t happen very often!

Carol was able to stay in her home until the year prior to her death. For the last nine months of her life, she resided at Oakleaf Village of Sylvania. She enjoyed the activities at Oakleaf and loved the resident and staff friends she made there.

Carol is survived by her children, Deborah Wagner, Cheryl Simrell King, Jamie (Melvin) Stretchbery, Douglas Simrell, and Karen Sue Rood; her grandchildren, Lauren Wagner, Jacqueline Wainscott, Kate King, Jessica Rood, Curtis Stretchbery, Samantha Mottaghi, Austyn Simrell, Shane Rood, and their partners/spouses; her eight great-grandchildren, Evangeline, Wesley, Zoe, Madeline, Jaelyn, Lucas, Macie, and Paisley; and her brother Richard (Althea) Bedard and their children.

The family is very grateful for the excellent care Carol received from her doctors and nurses, particularly her primary care physician, Dr. James Bomer, and for the loving and caring staff at Oakleaf Village and Hospice of Northwest Ohio  Ebeid Center.

There will be no service or visitation.
