Beverly J. "Bev" Hartwig passed away August 3, 2024, after a battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was surrounded by her loving husband, Robert, and her three children, David, Kevin, and Lauren. Bev was born January 18, 1952, in Allen Park, Michigan, to Frederick A. and Kathleen C. Wirth. She was a 1970 graduate of Allen Park High School, and went on to complete a B.S. in Nursing at Wayne State University. She met her husband, Bob, during his surgical training at the University of Michigan, and they were married December 3, 1977.
Bev and Bob moved to Sylvania, Ohio, at the conclusion of Bob's training in 1980. There they raised three children. Bev worked as a college counselor at St. John's Jesuit High School. She particularly enjoyed advising students who were interested in careers in healthcare. Bev was active in the Junior League of Toledo, the Alliance of the Lucas County Academy of Medicine, and the Ability Center of Toledo. In retirement, she became even more active, spending time with her seven grandchildren!
Bev and Bob enjoyed spending time at their home in Glen Arbor, Michigan, which she called her "happy place," a sentiment she passed to her children and grandchildren, who will continue to enjoy the place she loved so much. Whether it was playing on the beach and splashing in the waters of Lake Michigan, or just relaxing and enjoying the incredible sunsets with her husband, children, and grandchildren, her most enduring memories were made along the shores of Sleeping Bear Bay.
Bev was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Kate Wirth; and her in-laws, Henry and Lucille Hartwig. She is survived by her husband, Bob Hartwig; her brothers Jim and Tony Wirth; and her children and grandchildren: David and Katherine (Pollex) Hartwig and their children Amelia and Gretchen, Kevin and Leah (Kozy) Hartwig and their children Jack and Alexis, and Lauren and AJ Douthitt and their children Allison, Nathan, and Emma.
A Celebration of Life for extended family and friends will be held at Olivet Lutheran Church, Saturday October 19, 2024 11:00 A.M.. Those who wish to make a memorial donation in Bev's name are asked to do so to Olivet Lutheran Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
