Betty Joanne (Shoemaker) Helminiak

Betty Jo Helminiak, age 89, passed away peacefully at her Springfield Township home, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, July 25, 2025.  She was born June 23, 1936 in Toledo, OH, to Merle and Frances (Kujawski) Shoemaker.  She married John R. Helminiak, Sr. on June 8, 1957 and together they raised 3 children.

After Betty Jo graduated from Swanton High School, she started her career as a legal secretary at a law firm located in downtown Toledo.  She was a fantastic cook and loved baking a delicious pie and making jello.  Betty Jo enjoyed fishing on her boat on Lake Erie but truly found peace spending time in her own home.  She loved being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Lori Helminiak, John (Pam) Helminiak, and Mike (Carolyn) Helminiak; grandchildren, Jason (Tiffany), Jaclyn (Blake), Kolby (Allison),  Kylie (Dustin), Lucas (Jenny), Carson (Danielle), Brady and Katelyn (Todd);  9 great-grandchildren;  siblings, Judy, Pat and Richard and beloved grand-dog, Hatti.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John,  and siblings, Ronald and Carol.

Friends and family may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania, Wednesday, July 30, 2025 from 3-7:00 P.M. where funeral services will be held, Thursday, July 31, 2025 at 11:00 A.M.  Interment to follow at Springfield Township Cemetery.
