Anne Marie Paul, 87, of Toledo, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026. A woman of strength, wit and boundless love, she leaves behind a lasting legacy in all who knew her. Small but mighty, Anne embodied resilience, intelligence and an unmistakable spirit that earned her the nickname “Iron Pants”—a testament to her no-nonsense attitude and unwavering determination.
Born to Herman and Marie Seiler, Anne grew up with her brothers, Howard and John, both of whom preceded her in death. She was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School. As a teenager, she met the love of her life, Jim, and the two quickly formed a bond that would last a lifetime. They married in 1957 and shared 54 years together before Jim’s passing in 2011. Together, they built a life of love, laughter and adventure—enjoying the outdoors, caring for animals and raising their three daughters.
Anne was a devoted mother to her daughters, Cathie Paul, Debbie (Chris) Engel and Joanne (Kenny) Hooven. She was a proud grandmother to six—Laura (Doug) Kruse, Jessica (Blake) Kronovich, Justin (Kelsey) Engel, Andrew Kilisch, Zachary Hooven and Bradley Hooven—and a cherished great-grandmother to Cameron Kronovich, Caroline and Molly Kruse and Ava Engel, who lovingly knew her as “GG.”
In 1974, Anne was among the first to enroll in The University of Toledo’s paralegal program, earning her associate degree while working full time and raising her children. She went on to serve as a paralegal and office manager before starting her own business, providing estate and probate services. She became a well-known and respected presence in the Toledo legal community where she amassed a large attorney client base.
During the program, Anne met Mary Beth Wassum, beginning a friendship that spanned more than 50 years. United by their love of dogs, they spent many early mornings at the park in the rain and the snow, took up countless hobbies together and made lasting memories on annual trips to Florida.
Anne lived life with energy and enthusiasm. She enjoyed horseback riding, golf, racquetball, quilting and was known to surprise many with her impressive headstands. She had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved dogs and foxes, which brought her immense joy throughout her life. She was also a talented artist who created beautiful pieces using paints and oil pastels.
Above all, Anne will be remembered for her sharp mind, fierce independence and deep love for her family and friends. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered. Per Anne’s wishes, services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor her memory may consider a contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association Northwest Ohio chapter, Hospice of Northwest Ohio or the Toledo Humane Society.
