Almyra Ruth Shaffer, of Metamora, Ohio, born March 15, 1932, went home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, August 1, 2018. She died peacefully at her son’s home in Wilmington, Delaware, where she had lived for the past 10 years. Suffering from Alzhiemer’s Disease, she went through many changes during that time, forgetting many people and things but never forgetting to laugh!
Almyra was a rough tough country gal who loved to laugh, loved life and her family. She was a caregiver herself for many other people over the years, working for a short period in nursing home care. Most times it was just family she cared for and with all her heart. She was a mom, a grand mom, a great grand mom, and a wife, always making Christmas the most special time of the year for all.
She will certainly be missed by all who loved and knew her. She was preceded in death by parents, John and Gertrude Harwood; husband, Charles Shaffer; son, Thomas Pfenning; daughters, Robin and Jodi Scott; brother, Courtland Harwood; and sister, Dolores Haines. She is survived by sister, Phyllis Duliban, Carleton, MI; brother, Wendell (Virginia) Harwood, Sumpter, MI; son, Randy (Karen) Scott, Wilmington, DE; granddaughter, Jennifer (Gerry) Scott DiMatteo; grandsons, Ryan (Heather) Scott and Jamie Boger; and 5 great grandchildren.
Friends and family may call at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main Street, Sylvania, OH, Tuesday, August 7, 2018 from 10:00 A.M. until the service begins at 12:00 P.M. Pastor Randy G. Scott, officiating. Interment will follow at Amboy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, or to Iron Faith Fellowship Church, 801 Darley Rd., Wilmington, DE 19810.
