Alice Artrip Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Alice (Sevey) Artrip, 90. Alice passed away peacefully on May 11, 2026, in Sylvania, OH, surrounded by her family. Born on January 12, 1936, Alice remained a lifelong resident of Sylvania, OH.

Alice’s life was defined by hard work, dedication, and service to others. She began her career as a dental secretary for Dr. Thornhill in uptown Sylvania before finding her true calling during 20 years of service at Powertrain. A proud member of United Auto Workers Local 14, Alice remained actively involved with the union throughout her career and well into her retirement, leaving a lasting impact on both her coworkers and the community. She proudly served three terms as the Vice President and one term as the Sergeant at Arms for the UAW Local 14 Retirees. Alice spent many years helping with Local 14 Christmas parties, Easter egg hunts, and trips to Black Lake.

She is survived by her four daughters, Debbie (Kevin) Nelson, Vickie Veitch, Peggy Leach, and Leslie (Tim) Mathis; her nephew, Greg Sevey; six grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vern and Vera Sevey; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Connie Sevey; her sister, Frances; and her son-in-law, Michael Veitch.

Alice had a creative spirit and a generous heart. She loved crocheting, tending her yard and garden, playing video poker and bingo, baking and cooking, and traveling around the world. She was especially known for the beautiful wedding cakes she lovingly made for several family weddings. Alice was a lifelong Christian and devoted attendee of Westgate Chapel. Alice faithfully gave back to her community through her volunteer work with the American Red Cross. Her love for animals brought her comfort and happiness throughout her life. Alice always enjoyed her time at family gatherings.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the compassionate care and kindness shown by Monica from Christian Homecare, Laurie, Tiffany, and Mitra from Oakleaf of Sylvania, and Annette, Aurora, and Chaplain James from Ohioans Hospice.

Alice will be remembered for her strength, kindness, creativity, and the deep love she shared with everyone around her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
