Shirley May Potter

Shirley May Potter, 85, of Houghton Lake, MI, and formerly of Ida, MI, passed away peacefully Sunday July 29, 2018 surrounded by family. She was born October 22, 1932 in Toledo, OH, to Floyd and Blanche (Lichty) Kanavel.

Shirley married her sweetheart William Potter in 1951; they raised six children together and enjoyed 44 years of marriage until his passing in 1995. She also worked in the office at the University of Michigan for nineteen years retiring in 1987. 

Shirley had many interests through her lifetime including camping, traveling, country music shows, reading, puzzles and was a talented pie maker. Shirley will always be remembered as being a Loving Mom to All.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, David (Mary), Larry (Suzanne), Keith (Rosemary), Philip, Douglas (Valerie), Terry (Robin) Potter, 11 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, grandson Alex Potter, 2 sisters, and 3 brothers.

Friends may join the family for visitation at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, OH, Thursday August 2, 2018 from 2pm to 8pm where the Funeral Service will be held Friday August 3, at 11am.

Interment will follow at Riga Cemetery. Those wishing to give a memorial are asked to consider The Muscular Dystrophy Association or any Hospice of the donor choice.
