Shirley Ann MacKinnon (Borgeson) of Toledo, OH passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born February 8, 1932, in Fredonia, New York to Carl E. and Vera (Erickson) Borgeson.

Shirley graduated from Dunkirk High School in Dunkirk, NY in 1949.  After graduating top in her class in business studies, she took a position as secretary to the president-CEO of Bedford Products in Dunkirk, NY. 

It was on a date with “another fella” that she met the love of her life, Donald Russell MacKinnon.   They married August 28, 1954 and enjoyed 62 years of marriage before he passed away July 16, 2016.

While Russ studied at Purdue, Shirley became secretary to the president of the university.

Following Russ’ graduation, they settled in Toledo, OH. They had two children. Shirley went on to become a den mother, girl scout leader, room mother and active in PTA and library at Wernert Elementary School.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she served on various committees. 

Shirley was a loving wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, cousin, and friend.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Nancy (Tony) Lockard and Donald (Lynn) MacKinnon both of Toledo; grandchildren, Andrew (Jennifer) Lockard of Toledo; Hannah (Joshua) Horner of Fountain, Colorado; Gabrielle MacKinnon of Greenfield, Indiana; great grandchildren, Lucas Lockard and Oliver Horner; sister in law, Elnore (David) Kopp of Rochester, NY and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family would like to say thank you for the care and compassion shown by special friends Gretchen, Kathy and Charlene and the nurses and aides of Heartland Hospice.

Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, OH, on Sunday, November 26, from 4-8pm.  The Funeral Service will be at Grace Lutheran Church, 4441 Monroe St., Toledo, OH, Monday, November 27 at 11am with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment to follow at Ottawa Hills Cemetery.
