Robert Heiman Obituary

Robert “Bob” R. Heiman, 92, of Sylvania, Ohio passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Franciscan Care Center.  He was born on August 13, 1926 in Haskins, OH to Arnold and Beolia (Mourdock).  Bob married Janet Wade in 1957 in Fostoria, OH and together they raised a daughter and a son.

After graduation from Haskins High School in 1944, Bob joined the United States Army Air Force. He was proud to be a radio operator using morse code on a B-17; serving with the Allied Occupation in Japan and China until his Honorary Discharge in October,1946. He graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Education in 1949 and a Masters Degree in Educational Administration in 1954. Bob was a teacher starting in 1950 at Fayette High School, and became Assistant Principal of Sylvania High School in 1960.  He served in numerous Administrative positions with Sylvania City Schools until he retired as Assistant Principal of Northview High School in 1984. One of his proudest accomplishments occurred as Athletic Director, when he successfully recruited Hall of Fame Baseball Pitcher Bob Feller to speak at the High School’s Athletic Banquet. Bob was a life member of the Ohio Education and Ohio Retired Teachers Associations as well as the Ohio Association of Secondary School Principals. He was also a member of the American Legion and was a long-time member of The Sylvania First United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and served on numerous committees.

In retirement, Bob and Jan spent close to 30 years during the winter months in Bradenton, FL. They enjoyed the Gulf Beaches, and Bob enjoyed serving as the lead shuffleboard master of his retirement community. He also loved golfing, fishing, bowling, and watching most college and professional sports. He was a big fan of the Detroit Tigers, BGSU Falcons, and Ohio State Buckeyes.  He especially enjoyed catching perch with Jan at Catawba Island, and any activity involving his grandchildren. Over the years he went to hundreds of their softball, baseball, basketball and football games, and cross country meets.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Janet; daughter, Jennifer (David) Rowlson; son, Robert “Rob” (Tami); grandchildren, Lucas, Blake and Ross Heiman and Kylee (Hussein) Awada; and sister, Shirley Long.  He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter Jacquelyn, and his brother, Arnold.
