Richard Logan Sickles

Richard L. Sickles, age 93, of Sylvania passed away peacefully June 8, 2018.  He was born August 23, 1924 to Clarence W.  and Blanche M. Sickles in Ross Township (now Northwood) Ohio.  He was a 1942 graduate of Olney High School (now Northwood High School) and began employment with Sun Oil Company.  

He entered the service in WW II in 1943 and was assigned to the 816th Chemical Company, Air Operations in India.  He was believed to be the last surviving member of that unit.  Upon discharge, he came back to Toledo and returned to The Sun Oil Company where he worked for 41 years.  For thirty of those years he represented Sun Oil Company Marketing as their Real Estate Representative. 

Richard married Evelyn I. Stutzman in Metamora , Ohio  September 11, 1948.  They lived in Tiffin for five years, moving to Toledo in 1953, and Sylvania in 1965.  They enjoyed a 66 year marriage.  He was a member of Fairview Church of the Brethern.  He loved working in their yard, maintaining their home and working on his cars.  In his neighborhood he was known for having the nicest yard and the cleanest cars.  He loved helping his neighbors. 

Richard is survived by his son David R. (Kathleen) Sickles of Perrysburg; daughter Barbara J Sickles , Holland ,Ohio; three granddaughters, Paige Sickles of Perrysburg; Meredith (Ryan) Seveska of Libertyville, Illinois; and Katherine (Tyler) Poolman of Perrysburg.  He has two great-grandsons, Mark Poolman and Daniel Poolman. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, son Robert, his brother, William, and his parents.

Friends and family my visit the Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania, Ohio, Tuesday June 12, 2018 4-8:00 P.M. where the services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 A.M.
