Richard C. Gerding, 86, of Bowling Green, OH, passed away, Sunday, January 13, 2019, at the Wood County Hospital. He was born in Toledo September 19, 1932, to parents Leroy and Thelma (Horton) Gerding. Richard was proud to have served with the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. After discharge from the service, he was appointed to the Toledo Police Department where he served more than 30 years retiring with the rank of Sargent.
Richard is survived by his wife of 44 years Elsie (McCusker) Gerding; children Cheryl Haupricht, Richard Gerding Jr., Mary and Henry Vernon, and Vella (Dan) Williams; 9 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters June and Charlotte Vernon; brother Jerry and his wife Jackie Gerding; and son in law David Haupricht.
Friends are invited to gather at The Reeb Funeral Home 5712 Main St. Sylvania, Ohio on Thursday January 17th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. when the Marine Corps will conduct a service.
