Ralph Wendell Spahlinger

Ralph Wendell Spahlinger passed on Sunday, March 11, 2018. He was 87 years old. Ralph was predeceased by his wife, Carol (Wilms) Spahlinger, his parents, Austin and Abbie (Weed) Spahlinger, his brothers, Homer and Fred Spahlinger and a sister, Florence Pueghner. He is survived by one brother, Merrill Spahlinger (Francis) of Lake Milton, Ohio; three children, David Spahlinger (Carol) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Lynne Hunt of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Beth Snook (Thomas) of Sylvania, Ohio. In addition, he is survived by his grandchildren, Greg Spahlinger of Oak Park, Michigan, Diana McCarthy (Jon) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Melissa McGuire (Ty) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Alex Hunt of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Emily Schwertner (Kyle) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Austin Snook of Greenville, South Carolina and Ethan Snook of Sylvania, Ohio; and one great-grandchild, August McGuire of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
 

Ralph was born on February 16, 1931 and graduated from Braceville High School (Ohio) in 1949. On June 14, 1953, Ralph married his high school sweetheart, Carol (Wilms) Spahlinger. They were married for 62 years. Ultimately, He went on to graduate from The Ohio State University School of Dentistry after which he served his country as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army and then Captain in the United States Air Force Reserve (Dental Corps). Ralph practiced dentistry in Massillon, Ohio until his retirement in 1996. He was well loved by his patients.

Ralph was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He made it possible for his children to pursue their dreams by giving them a good start in life. Ralph had many friends and treasured his “daily breakfasts” and outings with them. His family and friends will always remember his humor, kindness and ready smile.  

Calling hours will be on Saturday, March 17, 2018, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 Main Street, Sylvania, OH with a memorial service immediately following.
