After a weekend of being surrounded by his large, loud, loving family, Michael Iozzo was received by the Lord on Monday, July 9th., 2018.
Born December 24, 1937 in San Nicola da Crissa, VV Italy, he knew he was destined for more and so his journey to the land of opportunity began. He arrived in the United States May 15, 1958 following his fathers footsteps. At 19, he spoke no English but managed to make his way. After meeting his blonde haired, green eyed American beauty at a dance hall in Toledo, Michael and his bride tied the knot October 28, 1961.
Not afraid of hard work, he would cut grass in the summers and work as an orderly at Mercy Hospital in the winter months. He then worked at Davis Paper Box as a printer/box cutter all while tutoring locals in Italian and Latin in the evenings. Through the years, the purchase of apartment buildings and the opening of Vittoria's Hair Fashions furthered his American Dream.
In January 1970, he purchased Mazzurco Foods in downtown Toledo and within the same year moved the business to Secor Road, renaming the company as his legacy: Iozzo Foods. He created a business of local recognition and status and thrived on the competitive market it brought to the area, he then sold in 1992, but not before embarking on yet another journey in the small business community. Continuing his entrepreneurial spirit, Michael saw an opportunity for a business specializing in printed pizza boxes for small pizza shops and Italian restaurants and PJs Corrugated was born. This business was for his wife and him to dabble in during their retirement years. But he didn't know how to go small. PJ's blossomed into a flourishing family business that has embraced its new community in the country.
