Loretta Crown Obituary

Loretta Jean Crown, 83, died on Monday July 23, 2018 at Ebeid Hospice Residence in Sylvania, OH.

Born on December 8, 1934 in Ottawa Lake, MI to Ralph and Isabelle (Schmidt) Smith, she grew up and lived her entire life in Sylvania.

She graduated from Burnham High School in 1952 and married her husband, Richard Crown, on May 29, 1954. Dick & Loretta recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

Loretta was a stay at home mom who devoted her time to raising her three sons, Brad, Doug & Terry, and keeping the household running smoothly while Dick was starting and growing his business, Edco Tool & Die.

She was an avid card player, as was the entire Smith family. If there were two or more Smiths together in a room, there was a deck of cards in between them. She knew every game and every variation of every game. She was damn good. Once in a while she’d let you win, just to keep you coming back.

After Dick retired, they became Florida residents and split time between St. Pete Beach and Sylvania.

Loretta embraced her Catholic faith and was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Church in Sylvania.

Left to cherish Loretta’s memory are husband, Dick; sons Brad (Mary) and Doug (Kathleen); grandsons Nathan (Emily) Crown and great grandson Eddie Crown, who brought her much joy since he was born in January; Kyle (Kelly) Crown, Peter Crown and William Crown; brother Kenneth Smith, sisters Catherine (Edwin) Bell, and Mary Jo (Eugene) Hoffmann.

She was preceded in death by her youngest son Terry; parents Ralph & Isabelle Smith; in-laws Henry and Anna Crown; siblings Lawrence (Nancy) Smith, Harold Parker, Marie Parker, Helen (Marvin) Smith, and Robert (Ardella) Parker.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday July 30th, 2018 at 10am in St. Joseph Catholic Church 5373 Main St. Sylvania, OH. Visitation will begin at 9am in the narthex of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

The Crown family would like to thank the staff at Ebeid Hospice for their genuine care and concern for Loretta. You are truly angels here on earth.
