John Sporleder, 86, of Sylvania, OH, passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at his home. He was born to John and Ruth (Westrick) in his grandparent’s house in Perrysburg, OH on July 1, 1932.
John graduated from Burnham High School in Sylvania in 1950, served 2 years in the US Navy during the Korea War and 9 years in the US Navy Reserve. He was a member of the American Legion for 57 years, a life member of the VFW Post 2898, and a 40-year member of the Sylvania Moose Lodge, which he helped to build on Main St. in Sylvania. John volunteered as a Sylvania fire fighter for 16 years at Fire Station #1. He worked as a cement mason for Lathrop Company and was a member of Local 886 for 60 years. He worked on commercial jobs in Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia and Florida.
John and his wife of 30 years, Linda Lou, had fun together enjoying camping and being “on the road." He never got over losing her to cancer in 2006 at the age of 64.
John is survived by his children, Rich (Darlene), Andy (Kelly), Pam (Paul), Daniel, Judy (Ed), Shannon (Dave) and Dean (Beth); 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and brother, Tom (Marge). He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; brother, David; and untimely deaths of grandsons, Kyle and Todd.
A celebration of life for John will be held Saturday, October 20, 2018 from 11am to 3pm at the Sylvania Moose Lodge, 6072 Main St. On-line condolences may be left at reebfuneralhome.com.
