Edwin Merz, 84, of Toledo, passed on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the Sunset House with his family by his side. He was born November 24, 1933 in Toledo, OH to Karl and Christina (Krauss) Merz. Edwin was married to Joyce Stanifer for 32 years.
Edwin was in the U.S. Army during the Korean war from 1952 until 1955 and then served in the reserves for eight years. He worked for Dana as a machinist for 35 years, belonged to the American Legion Post 0468 and the German American Festival Society. Edwin was a longtime member of King of Glory Lutheran Church where he ushered for many years.
Edwin is survived by his wife, Joyce; step-daughter, Diane (Mark) Cooper; step-son, Thomas (Wendy) Coffey; grandchildren, Sarah (Brad) Poore, Ryan Coffey and Ally Coffey; great grandchild, Linnea Poore; sister, Ruth Nelson; brother-in-law, Paul (Sue) Stanifer and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at the Reeb Funeral Home Friday, March 9, 2017 from 10a.m. until the service begins at 11:30a.m. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery in LaSalle, MI at 2:30 P.M. Memorials may be made to Ashanti Hospice of Sunset House. Online condolences to reebfuneralhome.com
