Colleen Fenstemacher, 89, passed away Friday April 27 at Kingston of Sylvania, just before happy hour. She was the only child of Charles & Mary Carroll and was a lifelong resident of Sylvania. She graduated from Burnham High School and attended Northwestern University. She married Gene Fenstemacher October 21, 1950 and enjoyed over 55 years of marriage until he passed away in 2006. She was a homemaker and avid reader.
Her fondest memories involved summers at Devil’s Lake from the time she was a young girl until her Parkinson’s Disease did not permit it. She also enjoyed Christmas Eve with family at her home. She was a wonderful mother to John (Gail) and Tom (Jodie), a loving grandmother to Mike Fenstemacher (Kelly), Amy Popelka (Joe), Kim Wright (Nick), Sarah Fenstemacher (Eric Wight) and Carrie Fenstemacher (Mark Brown) and great grandmother to Ebony, Dylan, Alexis and June.
Many thanks to the staff at Kingston (past and present) for her care over the past seven plus years, along with the folks at ProMedica Hospice who provided much comfort to her and the family in her final days.
Friends may visit at Reeb Funeral Home 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania on Wednesday, May 9 from 4PM to 8PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Thursday, May 10 at 11AM. Interment to follow at Toledo Memorial Park. If you come, be sure to tell her that her hair looks nice (she loved to hear that) and have a chocolate french mint in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sylvania United Church of Christ.
