Anna Marie Bolden was born September 19, 1925, in Toledo, Ohio. Her parents were John and Lillie Maude Chadwell. She was lovingly referred to by her family as “Sister.”
Anna Marie was educated in the Toledo Public School System and graduated from Jesup W. Scott High School. After graduation from Scott, she attended Tuskegee University where she received the Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. She went on to earn Master’s and Educational Specialist Degrees from the University of Toledo.
Along with 40 years of teaching, Anna Marie served as a great supporter of Cultural Arts in the Toledo community. She sang with local choral groups, including the Clarence Smith Community Chorus. She was an ardent supporter and advocate for the Toledo Symphony Orchestra and was a member of the Toledo Symphony League. For her work and commitment to engaging public school students with the orchestra, she was awarded with the orchestra’s prestigious Katherine Drexel Award.
Anna Marie was a Board Member of the Women’s Service Institute, a Founding Member of the Toledo Chapter of the National Teaching Sorority Phi Delta Kappa, and a Member of the Business and Professional Women’s Organization. She was a Life Member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Anna leaves to cherish her memory a son, Nelson II, 7 grandchildren, Angelica, Nelson III, Ari, Tyler, Melanie, Tyeisha, Breanna, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Anna Marie’s life will be celebrated Monday March 5th at 3 PM at the Third Baptist Church, 402 Pinewood Ave, Toledo, where family and friends may gather one-hour prior. Rev. Dr. David Johnson officiating.
