Allen C. Foster, 92, of Sylvania, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his home on April 10, 2018.
Born and raised in Coshocton, Ohio on January 19, 1926, Allen was the son of Mary Lawery and Clifford Foster.
Immediately following high school, Allen joined the US Navy and fought in the Pacific during WWII. He later attended Bowling Green State University and then moved to Toledo, where he began the Herald weekly newspaper business, serving NW Ohio and SE Michigan: The West Toledo Herald, Sylvania Herald, Perrysburg Herald, Maumee Herald, and others. Allen was also the owner of the Toledo Legal News.
Allen was lifetime member of the Sylvania Country Club and an avid golfer, where he earned several club championships. He and his wife lived part time in West Palm Beach, Florida were Allen not only golfed, but was a passionate fisherman. Allen also belonged to the Toledo Moose Lodge. In addition to all of his accomplishments, Allen was a generous supporter and patron to many causes, including the Cherry Street Mission for Men, and his alma mater, Coshocton High School, where he established a special endowment to honor his graduating class of 1943.
Allen was married on December 31, 1979 to his loving wife, Marty who survives him. Also surviving is his son, Jeffrey, step-children Thom and Lisa Lantz, Anthony and Ronald DeCola, six granddaughters, one grandson, and great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Reeb Funeral Home, Sylvania, Friday, April 13 from 12:00 P.M. until the service begins at 2:00 P.M, with The Rev. Gene Phlegar officiating.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a memorial contributions in Allen Foster’s name be made to the Cherry Street Mission of Toledo Ohio, or to Hospice of NW Ohio.
