Janetta J. Richards, 87, of Sylvania, OH passed away on Friday, February 9, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 4, 1930 in Huntingdon, PA to Clarence and Ethel (Anderson) Silknitter. She married David E. Richards on July 26, 1953 and together they raised 6 daughters. 

Janetta was a compassionate woman who put the needs of others first and was always appreciative of people’s kindness. She was an amazing cook, an avid gardener, and enjoyed not only working in her garden but helping others too. When her daughters were young, Janetta volunteered for their activities, including being a Girl Scout Coordinator and youth group volunteer, and assisted with many school activities. She was a long-time member of the Sylvania First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and the Merry Gold Garden Club.  Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She found pleasure in attending many of their activities and loved having them at her home. Janetta and Dave’s home was always welcoming to family and friends.

Janetta is survived by her daughters Nancy (Jim) Decker, Linda Richards, Teresa Joseph, Tammy (Dave) Dorner, Kim Lewis (Jim), and Kris (Aaron) Zombo; 14 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sister-in-laws Jodie Silknitter, Betty Stone and Peggy Richards, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, brothers John (Jane), Bob (Jean), and Clarence “Junior”; sisters Mayetta (Ken) Decker and Rolene (Dyke) Parks.

Family and friends may visit at the Reeb Funeral Home on Friday, February 16th from 5pm until 8pm. The funeral service will be at Sylvania First United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 17th at 12 noon preceded with a one hour visitation. Interment will follow at Toledo Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Janetta Richards Memorial Fund ℅ Tammy Dorner, Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main Street,  Sylvania, Ohio 43560.
