Dwight "Smitty" Smith

Dwight “Smitty” Smith, 89, of Sylvania, OH, left us Sunday, January 15, 2017, while under hospice care.

He was born in Sylvania Township July 21, 1927, to parents Joseph and Trecie (Cooper) Smith.

Smitty worked for Kuhlman Concrete for most of his life before retiring in 1989. He was proud to have served with the United States Navy during W.W. II, on the S. S. Sicily. Smitty was a free spirit. He flew his airplane literally all over the United States, and sailed his boats on Lake Erie. Smitty enjoyed fishing, skiing, camping and playing cards. He was a member of the Sylvania Moose Lodge, the Maumee Elks Club, the Joseph W. Diehn American Legion Post, and the Idlers and Loafers Club.

Smitty is survived by his sister Nelda Langenderfer; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces; great-nephews; and extended family members Kevin Tabner and Kyle Reumsat. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jim, Paul, and Bruce Smith; nephew Tim Smith; great-nephew Timothy Maier; and longtime companion Corky Tabner.

Friends may call at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St. Sylvania, OH, Friday, January 20th from 3 – 9 PM, where Funeral Services will be held Saturday at 11 AM, Smitty will be laid to rest with Military Honors at Toledo Memorial Park. The Joseph W. Diehn Post will conduct a service Friday evening at 7 PM.

He was easy going, fun loving, and always respected and loved by his many friends and family. We will miss you Uncle Dwight!
