Carol Jean Spahlinger (Wilms) passed on September 29, 2015 after a short illness. She was 81 years old.  Carol was predeceased by her parents, Gary and Thelma Wilms and her brothers, Wayne and Dean Wilms, all from Newton Falls, Ohio. She is survived by her husband, Ralph Wendell Spahlinger of Sylvania, Ohio; three children, David Spahlinger (Carol) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Lynne Hunt of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Beth Snook (Thomas) of Sylvania, Ohio. In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Greg Spahlinger of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Diana Spahlinger of Durham, North Carolina, Melissa McQuire (Ty) of Chelsea, Michigan, Alex Hunt of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Emily Schwertner (Kyle) of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Austin Snook of Sylvania, Ohio and Ethan Snook of Sylvania, Ohio.

Carol was born on February 14, 1934 and graduated from Braceville High School (Ohio) in 1952. In addition to being class salutatorian, Carol was involved in a number of activities including cheerleading and school plays and was elected homecoming queen. As a young mother, she taught her daughters some of the cheers she remembered from her high school days. On June 14, 1953, Carol married her high school sweetheart, Ralph, and they were married for 62 years.

Carol excelled in many areas; cooking, baking, sewing, bridge, dancing, decorating, bowling and golf. She was one of the “Frog Ladies” of the Women’s Auxiliary of Flowers Hospital, sewing stuffed frogs for children. She made friends easily and loved to entertain. Her biggest passion, however, was her family and she made sure her children were able to participate in their own passions. After school, you could count on her to be waiting at home to hear about your day. She was the epitome of the perfect grandmother….lively, fun, creative and kind. Carol was also a devoted wife and handled the financial aspect of her husband’s dental practice for many years.  They were a team at home and at work, always together.

Calling hours will be on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 10 AM – 12 PM at Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 Main Street, Sylvania, OH with a memorial service immediately following.   In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (http://www.alzfdn.org).   Online condolences may be offered to the family at reebfuneralhome.com
